MVHR systems work by continuously extracting stale air from “wet” areas like bathrooms, kitchens, and utility rooms while supplying fresh, filtered air to living spaces and bedrooms. The key difference is heat recovery: warm outgoing air passes through a heat exchanger, transferring most of its heat to the incoming fresh air without mixing the air streams.
This makes MVHR especially effective in well-sealed homes where natural ventilation is limited. It helps reduce condensation on windows, lowers the risk of damp and mould, and keeps the air feeling cleaner—often making a noticeable difference for comfort, sleep, and day-to-day wellbeing.
A good MVHR installation depends on correct design and commissioning. Duct routes, noise control, valve placement, and airflow rates all need to be planned around the property so each room receives the right ventilation without drafts or unwanted sound. Filter access and maintenance also need to be considered from the start.
